The Government-wide R&D Fund Project for Infectious Disease Research (GFID), South Korea, is an international collaborative research initiative aimed at enhancing global epidemic preparedness through data exchange and advanced analytics. This project is a joint effort involving the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), Burapha University (Thailand), Princess Srisavangavadhana College of Medicine under Chulabhorn Royal Academy, the Department of Disease Control under the Ministry of Public Health (Thailand), and partner institutions from Indonesia.

The core objective is to collect and analyze large-scale datasets—such as case numbers, mortality rates, weather, temperature, and humidity—that influence the spread of infectious diseases. In its initial phase, the project focuses on Thailand, compiling local epidemic-related data and studying outbreak factors in-depth.

The collaboration emphasizes the development of standardized data architecture for rapid information use and predictive models to forecast epidemics. This partnership between Korea, Thailand, and Indonesia showcases a strong commitment to scientific cooperation and the global fight against future pandemics.

Key Project Activities:

1. In-depth analysis of disease-related data provided by the ASEAN governments and Digitization for data sharing between Korea and ASEAN.
2. Establishment of a pilot solution for the collection and sharing of available source data in ASEAN for the creation of learning datasets.
3. Development of visualization technology to report the results of disease prediction in ASEAN provided by KISTI on the solution.
4. Joint discovery of predictive disease cases in ASEAN using KISTI technology.
